Mary Ruth "Hazel" Kinney, age 101, of Abilene, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 20, 2012. Graveside services will be Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11:00a.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.
Hazel was born on Christmas Day, 1910 in Dialville, Texas. She was the third daughter of William H. and Laura Mae Isaacks.
Hazel retired from Abilene State School on December 20, 1972. After retirement she enjoyed taking care of babies and doing things for others. One of her hobbies was making beautiful handmade quilts that she always gave as gifts. What most people will remember about Hazel is her insistence that you always leave her home with something to eat. Even if you were just a delivery person who she did not personally know, she had a jar of jelly, pickles or honey for you.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edward Kinney; her sisters, Worth Albright, and Lyndall Johnston; one daughter, Shirley Golleher; and one son, Doyle J. Kinney.
Survivors include her grandson, Glenn Kinney and wife, Brenda of Hallsville, TX; granddaughter, Paula Gracy of Abilene; three great-grandchildren, Teresa Lynn Pena of El Paso, TX, Paul Randell Tiner of Round Rock, TX, and Leslie Tiner of Hutto, TX; three great-great-granddaughters, Maddison and Kayleigh Tiner and Kaitlynn Newman; a nephew, Billy Jack Johnston of Temple, TX; niece, JoAnn Morris of Carrollton, TX; and very special friend, Jackie Stewardson of Abilene.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for the staff at inpatient Hospice of Hendricks Hospital for all the gentle care and kindness.
Hazel in her kind and always thinking of others way, requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford St., Abilene, TX. 79605.
