

Joanne B Carson, 79, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in Amarillo, TX. Services will be 2:00p.m., Friday, February 20, 2015 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Jeff Reid officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
Joanne was born on October 25, 1935 in Amarillo, Texas to Arthur Young and Irma Louella Gardner Barney. She attended public schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1954. She furthered her education by attending Texas Tech and graduating from McMurry University. Joanne married her high school sweetheart, Clarence Raymond Carson in Abilene on June 14, 1957. She became an educator and taught in the Abilene Independent School District for many years.
Joanne was a member of the Big Country Reading Association, the International Reading Association, the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association, the Association of Texas Professional Educators, and was also a member of Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ray Carson; her son, Clarence Raymond Carson, Jr.; and sisters, Marilyn Cheadle and Beverly Womack.
Survivors include her son, Wayne Carson and wife, Angie of Amarillo; daughter, Raeanne Martin and husband, Larry of Van Alstyne; grandchildren, Chris Carson and wife, Maggie of Amarillo, Chris Solis and wife, Jessica of Brady, Lee Ann Manire and husband, Keith of Amarillo, Melissa Cook and husband, Aaron of Arlington, Zachary Martin and wife, Stephanie, of Abilene, KS, Taylor Martin and wife, Katy of Wichita, KS, Lucas Martin and wife, Halie of Arkansas City, KS; and eight great-grandchildren.
