Leon L. (Tedford) Zachry

After graduating from Eula High School, Leon began his journey of service by joining the United States Navy in January of 1954, where he served as an aircraft mechanic. Four years later, he continued his military career by transferring to the United States Air Force. There, he served as a master sergeant responsible for maintenance on Minuteman missile systems, filling an important and demanding role. Leon proudly dedicated 22 years to the armed forces before retiring with honor.

Outside of his military service, Leon found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a deep love for music and could often be found singing or playing one of the many instruments he enjoyed. He was happiest outdoors, whether fishing, hunting, or camping. But above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family.

Leon is survived by his loving wife, Napa Zachry; daughters, Cindy Billups, Sharon Zachry, Becky Hughes and husband Sean, and Karen Savage and husband Tim; grandchildren, Brigitte, Brandon, Heath, Noel, Shannon, Bridget, Brooke, Zack, Seanna, Lattie, Colton, and Cheyanna; and great-grandchildren, Braxton, Kamryn, Cooper, Brayden, Hayden, Ayden, Amy, Hudson, Grayson, Jack, Ryenn, Spencer, Autumn, and Ember. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, N.T. and Lula Anna (Eddins) Zachry; his first wife, Katie Zachry; his mother-in-law, Bessie Martin; his son, Joe Zachry; and three sisters and eight brothers.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made in Leon’s honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization that supports veterans and first responders.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 5th, 2025, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at 11:00 AM also at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, followed by a private family burial.
