Mary R. Meeks

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Reverend Pam Rowley and Brother Mike Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 North 2nd Street. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mary was born November 11, 1929 in Avoca, Texas to Mary S. (Smithey) and Charles Wesley Culwell. She was employed by Lone Star Gas Company for 30 years until her retirement in 1981. Mary was also a homemaker. She married Terry W. Haught on November 11, 1952. He preceded her in death on January 7, 1971. She married J.L. Meeks on May 18, 1978. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2002. Mary was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for 32 years and a member of Friendship Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Vera Culwell; two brothers, Robert Culwell and Punk Culwell; and a sister-in-law, Jimmy Culwell.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Poynor and husband, Gary, of Abilene; a grandson, Brian Poynor and wife, Monica, of Abilene; great-grandchildren, Hunter Poynor, Acelyn Poynor, Tristan Nottingham, and Cheyenne Nottingham.
