

Costa M. Simonetti known by most simply as Simon, won his almost ten-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He passed on Saturday April 29, 2023 in the comfort of his own home in his own bed, surrounded by the love of his family.
Services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Highway 277 S. in Abilene. Interment will follow with military honors at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene at 1:00 PM. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 14th, from 5-7:00 PM also at the funeral home.
Simon was born in Birmingham, Alabama on 13 August 1968 to the late Brenda and Frank J. Simonetti, Sr. He joined the United States Air Force in 1987, becoming an AMMO troop. Simon’s first duty station was Nellis AFB Las Vegas, NV. While stationed in Las Vegas he met his soulmate Vikki, and they married in June of 1990. Moving his small but growing family to Eielson AFB, Alaska from 1991-1999. Between the TDY’s and Deployments, Simon and his family enjoyed many camping and fishing adventures. In 1999, the family arrived at Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX. At Dyess he reached the rank of MSgt. He stayed busy with TDY’s, deployments, working at Sam’s Club, volunteering with Meals on Wheels as well as various other volunteering. One of his greatest joys was organizing the 7th MUNS Haunted House each year. Proudly watching his three children graduate from Cooper High School. He retired from active duty in 2011 and allowed for some free time before starting a career at Tiger Manufacturing and then moving to Nichols Battery until his diagnosis of ALS in 2014. He spent the next few years fulfilling his bucket list.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Simon is survived by his wife and best friend, Vikki; brother Jimmy (Cindy) McGuire of Collinsville, AL; sister Frankie (Arthur) Crawley of Clarksville, TN; brothers, Frank J. Simonetti, Jr. of High Point, NC and John(Sheena) Simonetti of Birmingham, AL; his children, Costa (Rose) Simonetti, Jr. of NC, Leo(Jessica) Simonetti of Abilene, and Amy Simonetti of Abilene. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his pride and joy-his grandchildren, William and Anna of NC; and Logan-who so loved his Pop-Pop, and his soon to be little brother.
May you rest easy now that you are whole and in the loving arms of your Heavenly Father.
