

A visitation for Ollie will be held Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606. A graveside service will occur Friday, May 23, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, US-277, Abilene, TX 79606.
Ollie was born on December 23, 1931, to Jewell James Sides and Carmon (Low) Sides in Rowena, TX (Runnels County). In 1947, she married Ralph Long McNew Sr. in Lovington, NM. During their 23 years of marriage, they lived in Texas and New Mexico following the oil field work. Ollie was a stay-at-home mom raising 4 boys until she graduated from Odessa College of Nursing in 1964. She cared for patients at Dr. Lee and Andrews Nursing home in Andrews, TX, a hospital in Odessa, TX, the student clinic at the University of Texas in Austin and Glen Rose, TX hospital. On March 8, 1975, she married Rev. Lloyd Hagemeier in Cross Plains, TX. They served in many churches in the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. They retired June 1, 1999 moving to Midland, TX. In 2011 they moved to Abilene, TX.
Preceded in death by husband Lloyd Hagemeier; parents, J.J. and Carmen Sides; 2 infant daughters, Alma Jean McNew and Sharon Marie McNew; son, Ralph Long McNew, Jr.; brother Gorden Q. Sides; sister-in-law Bessie Sides and brother-in-law George W. Radney.
Survivors include 3 sons, Jimmy Wayne McNew of Kerrville, TX, Tom J. McNew (wife Cindy) of Abilene, TX, Allen McNew (wife GayNell) of Weatherford, TX; ten grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Ollie is also survived by a sister Virginia Lee Radney of Coldsprings, TX and a brother J. A. Sides of Abilene, TX, sister-in-law Glenda Sides of Lockhart, TX, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be sent to Methodist Children's Home, 1111 Herring Ave., Waco, TX 76708.
