Ruby Louise Branam

Ruby Louise Branam, 74, of Eula ascended to Heaven on March 20, 2013 after a very courageous battle with colon cancer. Funeral services will be 3:00p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St., Abilene, TX, with Rev. Tim White of Eula Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.

Louise was born in Alex, OK on October 9, 1938 to Ollie and Leona Smith. The family moved to Abilene where she attended Abilene High School and graduated in 1957. She later married and raised three children in Abilene.

She worked alongside her mother as a CNA at Sears Methodist Retirement Home in Abilene taking care of the elderly. Louise later worked as a store manager for Circle K on Ambler and Willis and that’s where she met her husband, Charles Branam of 30 years. Since that time they have lived in Abilene among other places and eventually retired in the Eula community.

Louise loved family and spending time in her son’s pecan orchard. She enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and loved watching her birds and deer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Leona Smith; brothers, Laymond and Leon Smith; grandson, William Bradley Haddix; and a great-grandson, Landon Parker Rains.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Branam; children, William Odell Haddix of Eula, Andra Jeanine Haddix Stanton of Clearwater, Florida, and Johnny Ervin Haddix of College Station, TX; her step-children, Charles, Jeweli, Becky, James, Shelly, Laura, Christy, Misty and Carla; a brother, Ollie Smith, Jr. of Hull, TX; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all of the members of the Hendricks Hospice Care Unit, who contributed to the loving care and needs of Mrs. Branam. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice Care Unit, 1682 Hickory St., Abilene, TX 79601.
