

Samuel “Cleon” Smith, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, January 17, 2016. Services for Cleon will be at 1 pm Thursday, January 21 at the First Baptist Church in Clyde, officiated by Brother Toby Henson, assisted by Pastor Paul Mata. Visitation will be held starting at 11 am the day of the service, also at the church. Burial will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Abilene.
Cleon was born January 4, 1928 in the Iberis Community of Taylor County to Grover and Cora Ella Smith. He graduated from Abilene High School and was the owner of S&N Repair for many years. Cleon was a member of the Masons, Chapter #559 for 60+ years. He served as President for the Clyde Sr. Center, was an RSVP volunteer and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was also a member of the Crescent Heights Baptist Church in Abilene and a more recent member of the First Baptist Church in Clyde.
Cleon was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and a brother, his wife of 53 years, Frankie Doris Smith, who went Home before him on March 4, 2003. A second wife of 11 years Maxine Jamison Smith and a son Jerry “Smitty” Smith.
He is survived by daughters Brenda Sherrill of Abilene,TX, Kila Fahr and husband Jon of Bend, OR, daughter-in-law Barbara Holderfield of Pettersberg, VA; Grandchildren Nathan Sherrill and wife Casey of Abilene, TX, Aaron Holderfield and wife Chelsi of Pettersberg, VA, Ian Fahr of Bend, OR, Elany Fahr of Portland, OR; Great Grandchildren Emily Sherrill of Lebanon, OR, Madyson Holderfield of Pettersberg, VA, Ethan Sherrill of Abilene, TX, Braydon Holderfield of Pettersberg, VA, Levi Sherrill of Abilene, TX and Sunny Sherrill of Abilene, TX, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Gideon Bible or a charity of choice.
