Sherry L. Johnson

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at New Light Baptist Church, 518 North 6th Street, Abilene, with Reverend Eddie Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road, Abilene, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Sherry was born April 13, 1956 to Weaver Edwards and Dorothy Stone Edwards in Paris, Texas. She married Earnest Johnson. Sherry was employed in law enforcement as a jailer in Paris, Texas. She worked at a reform school in Oklahoma and as a meter maid. Sherry enjoyed working with the handicapped. Sherry loved to go with her husband to spread the word and love of the Lord through their singing ministry. She liked to read; loved cooking; and working around the church. Sherry was an usher at New Light Baptist Church where she was a member. She was a good wife.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lorraine Wade.

Survivors include her husband, Earnest Johnson of Abilene; a son, Justin Mixon of Paris, Texas; brothers, Marcus Edwards and wife Bobbye, Gerald Bryant, James Ward Edward and wife Ann, and Daniel Edwards, all of Paris, Texas, and Willis Edwards and wife Brenda of Houston, Texas; sisters, Cynthia Mitchell of California and Audrey Ellis and husband Jeffery of Paris, Texas; and a grandson, Justarryon Mixon of Paris, Texas.
