Sylvia Godines Calderon

A visitation and Rosary will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 6-8:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Highway 277 S. Abilene, Texas 79606. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories in the Garden of Prayer.

Sylvia was born on February 1, 1981, at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, where her parents were stationed. She was the second of three children born to Johnny and Sevilla (Gonzales) Godines. Growing up in a military family she moved numerous times as a child. After her father’s retirement in 1991 the family settled in Abilene. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1999. She married Joseph Anthony Calderon, Sr. on August 26, 2000, together they had two sons. Her sons Joey and Jake made her very proud and were the center of her world.

Though Sylvia dealt with health challenges since the age of 17 she always had a strong work ethic. She initially went to work at Gordon's and then the BX on Dyess Air Force Base. Later she began what would become a rewarding and successful career with Dillard’s. She worked in the children’s department and it was truly her calling.

She will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle and quiet demeanor. Though often reserved with those she did not know she enjoyed special time with those she loved. She enjoyed creating special memories with her family.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Antonio Gonzales and Isabel Cordova; her paternal grandparents, A.C. and Helen Godines; her sister-in-law, Kimberly Godines.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, her sons, Joseph Calderon, Jr. and Jacob Calderon; her parents, TSgt. Johnny L. Godines, USAF(Ret.) and Sevilla “Bel” Godines; her siblings, MSgt. Johnny Godines, Jr., USAF (Ret.), Rebecca Medrano and brother-in-law, SMSgt David Medrano USAF (Ret.), nephews, Jaedon, Daven and Julian; niece, Kinley and numerous extended family stateside and in the Philippines.
