

Wayne B. Palmer, 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Visitation will be Friday, April 17, 2015 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene from 6:00p.m.to 8:00p.m. Funeral services will 10:00a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Elmcrest Baptist Church,517 N. Pioneer Dr. with Bro. T.C. Melton, Bro. Burtis Williams, and Bro. Wes Terry officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
Wayne was born in Priddy, TX on September 13, 1931 to George Ed and Clifford Brown Palmer. He joined the National Guard where he was enlisted for 13 years. Early in life he went to work at several different manufacturing companies. Wayne worked at Langford's for about 21 years. He met his wife of 63 years, Claire Goodman, while working there and they married on May 3, 1951 in Hamby, TX. He later worked at Walls Industries in Merkel and retired after 20 years.
Wayne loved his church and served as a deacon and Senior Citizens Sunday School teacher for many years and was also a Mason. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him.
Preceding him in death were his brothers, Lindley and Prentis Palmer; and a sister, Dorothy Sample.
Survivors include his wife, Claire; son, Paul Palmer and daughter, Brenda Casselberry both of Abilene; grandsons, Ryan Palmer and fiancée, Kaitlin Vetere of Virginia, and Hunter Casselberry of Abilene; special friends, Bill Edge, John Wayne Harris, Darrel Scott, Robert Jones, Charles Laury, John Corona, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broadview Baptist Church Building Fund, 2500 S. 27th St., Abilene, TX 79605.
