OBITUARY

James Alexander McCoig

29 September, 1948 – 9 November, 2023
IN THE CARE OF

MacKinnon Family Funeral Home

Jim passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, but in the most peaceful way – in his sleep, while on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean. He was in his happy place.

Jim leaves behind his beloved wife and travel companion of 46 years, Alana, his daughters Jaime (Clint) Kennedy and Rebecca McCoig as well as his three grandkids, Nate and Alex Kennedy and Riley McCoig-Saczawa. He is pre-deceased by his parents Alex and Janet McCoig and his younger brother John.

After graduating from Seneca College with his pilot licence, he began his aviation career with Transport Canada and then moved onto flying corporate aircraft for various companies. Midway through his career, Jim finally decided he wanted to work for himself and with a friend from Seneca College, started a corporate aviation management company called Odessey Aviation. Jim ended his career by returning to Transport Canada as an Aviation Inspector, retiring in 2018. Jim then began his new career of travelling on cruises all over the world with Alana as well as a few special trips with Jaime, Rebecca and their families.

Jim was a great mentor to many in aviation and was highly respected in his field as a pilot, entrepreneur and aviation inspector. At home, he was the chief computer geek, the go-to for all things electronic and the yard maintenance man. He loved nothing more than lounging by the pool during the summer and watching his grandkids swim and play.

Jim was an amazing man and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Enjoy the cruise ship in the sky, big guy!
