The family of Mildred Sinclair (née Watson) is heart-broken to share the news of her passing on January 16, 2026 at Georgetown Hospital in her 91st year . She has been reunited with her love Ralph (predeceased 2007). She was the loving mother to Neil (Mary Beth Klimkosz) and Janet Merritt (James) and a devoted “Farm Nana” to Jacob Merritt. A beloved sister-in-law to Herbert Sinclair (Joan) and an aunt and great aunt to many, including honorary nieces and nephews, that she loved dearly. Mildred is predeceased by her siblings Bertha Robinson (Ken), Nelson (Jean), Bill, Jessie McDonald (John), Margaret and Erland.
Mildred grew up on a farm in Brampton, and was the middle of 7 children. She followed her family’s fondness for teaching and after graduating Teacher’s College in 1955 she was hired to teach at Cedarvale in Erin Township before transferring to Brisbane Public School. During those years she participated in Acton Junior Institute, Junior Farmers and Debate Club.
In 1964 she married Ralph and her new vocation turned to being a partner on the farm and raising her family. Her love of teaching remained and she led 4-H clubs and Sunday School, as well as often in addition to caring for her many nieces and nephews. She referred to all of the young people that she dealt with as ‘my kids’. In addition to her leadership roles Mildred volunteered with Ladies Aid at Ospringe Church and Women’s Institute organizations where she created some life-long friendships.
She will be fondly remembered for her cheerful disposition, her understated strength and her ability to pull together a meal for anyone that unexpectedly stopped in at the farm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MacKinnon Family Funeral Home, 55 Mill St. E Acton, ON. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday January 24th, 2026 from 2-5 PM. A private interment will take place in the Spring at Everton Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or SickKids Foundation would be greatly
appreciated by the family.
