Pete, Rachel, Ben and Mackenzie, We were so sorry to hear of your recent loss. Please know that our thoughts are with you at this time. I remember your Dad fondly for his great sense of humour and contagious laugh :) Thinking of you all. I just found out today or I would have tried to get to one of the visitations or the funeral yesterday. Sorry I missed it.

I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I know that the past few years have been challenging for Neil and all of you. Pete, I was so glad to have had that visit with you recently so that you could catch me up on how your Dad had been doing. Thank you for taking some time to chat. I know it is what your Dad taught you to do so well, as you have gradually evolved into the greatest likeness of him!
 
I will be thinking of you and your families and remembering. I hope that your happiest memories are the ones that stand out the most and sustain you through your feelings of loss.

Many good memories of your Mom & Dad.  Our thoughts and our prayers are with all of you.

Having been close to this family for many years, I had the pleasure of frequent exposure to Neil's colourful storytelling abilities.  We laughed.  A lot.  Of course this just encouraged him more.  

Among my favourite were the "what Grampa used to do" stories.  It seems Neil's father suffered from a rather advanced form of dementia himself.  One that, at times, presented many challenges.  Grampa had to live with Neil and Ruth for a while as he was no longer safe to be on his own without supervision. 

Grampa insisted on maintaining his own perceived level of independence by performing as many routine tasks as possible.  Dressing himself, for example. Seems simple enough.  Apparently not so, as he stepped out of his room in the morning with 3 pairs of pants and 4 shirts on and adamantly defied all suggestions of wrongdoing!  You can imagine Neil conveying this picture.  He did it with so much more finesse than I could begin to relay in my note.  It was roll-on-the-floor hilarious.......and he knew it!  Neil had the gift of storytelling and used it well.

One of the most memorable tales for me was the detailed report of his father's opinion about Ruth, since it was Ruth who stayed home with him so that Neil could continue going to work everyday.
 
In the front picture window of their living room hung a 70's style macrame plant- hanger.  You remember, the kind made of phentex yarn.  Where the "tail" of the hanger hung down like a frizzy pony tail.  We've all seen them.  We remember them, even if we'd rather not.  I can still hear Neil taking great delight in quoting his father saying, "Neil, there's something I think you should know.  Your wife is lovely and I like her, don't get me wrong...........but she's soooooo lazy.  She just stands in that front window and looks out at the street all day.  She doesn't do a damn thing!"  Apparently Grampa's eyesight wasn't the best either but it sure was perfect fuel for what Neil did so well........entertain.

I will always remember Neil and Ruth fondly and I am finding solace in knowing that Neil has joined Ruth again and that she will be overjoyed to hear him tell her yet another story!

Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of Neil.  He was a wonderful man and good to our mom while they were married.  We really enjoyed the times we spent with him, he had so many interesting stories to tell.  We know you will miss him.

To all Neils family my sincere condolences.I remember when Neil started the  first Boy Scout Troop at Trinity United Church in Schumacher . His nic name was Doall (Do all) and that says it all. I remember when he came in and told mom and dad he had joined the navy. It was  a tense moment. His nic name changed then to Dusty Miller. Neil was a happy jolly person with a great  sense of humour I will miss my wonderful brother.
