Norm will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his children, Kelly, Michael, and Elizabeth, and is now reunited with his beloved son, Bradley James Hartford. He was a proud grandfather to Bradley, Shawn, Tianna, Erin, Nash, and Kane, and a cherished great-grandfather. He will be remembered fondly by his siblings, Bill, Connie, Marlene, and Bob, as well as by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends whose lives he touched.
Norm’s life carried him through many parts of the GTA. He spent his childhood in Toronto, raised his family in Bramalea alongside his wife, Faye, and in his later years settled in Halton Hills, where he enjoyed the community of Acton.
At a young age, Norm joined the Canadian Armed Forces and was stationed in Valcartier, Quebec, where he proudly served as a Guardsman. During his time in the military, he also took on roles as a mechanic and driver before being honourably discharged. His time in service shaped his character and deepened his lifelong respect for community and country. He remained a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 52 years, as well as an annual donor to The War Amputations of Canada.
Hockey was one of Norm’s greatest joys. He is remembered as “Mr. Bramalea Hockey”, and Coach, to many young boys and girls, leaving a lasting impact on their lives, as well as his. Norm has stayed in touch with some of his players decades later, proud of the friendships and mentorship that grew from those years on the ice. He also played for fun in the Thursday Nite Oldboys League from 1965 to 1990, a weekly tradition with longtime friends that was more about camaraderie than competition. Beyond hockey, Norm found happiness on the golf course, fishing, and most of all, in sharing laughs and stories with friends.
Above all else, Norm was a devoted grandfather. To his grandchildren, he was more than just “Grandpa” or “Grampy”; he was a source of encouragement and unconditional love, a steady presence in their lives whose memory will be felt and remembered always.
Authentic, humorous, and full of character, Norm had a way of leaving people smiling. He built connections everywhere he went, and his sharp wit and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
