Joy received a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio University and a master’s degree in art therapy from the University of Dayton in Ohio. Joy was a primary school and art teacher for over 30 years in the Akron School System and St. Mary's School in Akron. Joy loved to travel the world and traveled extensively abroad (Europe, Asia, South Pacific, and Africa), having lived in Hawaii and Japan teaching children of the US armed services. Joy also loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her prayer group as she was a long-time member of Akron First Assembly of God.
Joy is survived by her brother Frank Tsakeres (Mary Anne) of Louisville, Tennessee; her nieces Krista Mavroff and Katie Hendrickson and her nephew Scott Tsakeres; and her great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend and Sister in the Lord Carol Crook.
Joy was preceded in death by her father Joseph Tsakeres (Akron, Ohio) and her mother Mary (Molinski) Tsakeres (Akron, Ohio); her aunt Catherine "Cat" Snyder (Akron, Ohio), and her uncles Joe (Massillon, Ohio) and Ed Molinski (Memphis, Tennessee).
Joy will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Funeral Home & Burial Park, 3653 W Market St, Akron, OH 44333. Receiving of friends will be held at Rose Hill Funeral Home on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 3:30pm to 5:00 pm with services following at the Rose Hill Chapel officiated by Pastor Chris Vasquez of Akron First Assemblies of God.
