Dr. Robert S. Jones 79, passed away October 20th at the Cleveland Clinic following a short, but valiant, battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The rare disease that has no known cause nor cure. Bob was born in Warren in 1931 and was a 43 year resident of Akron. He was a 1954 graduate of The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. While at Penn, Bob was an active member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity as well as The Mask and Wig Show Club. Following 3 years of service in the U. S. Navy, Bob graduated from the O.S.U. Dental School. Bob returned to naval service for another 3 years before opening his first dental practice in Akron in 1967. He will be remembered for his dedication to his patients and his ongoing commitment to the greater Akron community. A lover of sports (especially golf) and a gifted distance runner, Bob did not know the meaning of the word “no”. Gentle and kind to a fault- the lives Bob touched are too numerous to count—most of Akron’s best smiles can be traced to Bob’s handiwork. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Carl Jr. and Ken as well as sisters Miriam, Jean, Caroline and Beverly. Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years Barbara, his sister, Mary Jane of California; daughters Sarah (Daniel) Bonafini of Akron, Katie (Stan) Dunton of Chagrin Falls, Karen of Boulder,Colorado and Kim (Anson) Sapp of Dillon Colorado; 6 grandchildren, Reese, Samuel, Paige, Jeremy, Kalena and Dalton, many nieces, nephews and friends across the country. His love for his grandchildren was equaled only by his love for Barbara and his four girls—thankfully he lives on in all of them. Bob’s remains will be cremated privately on Saturday the 23rd. A short memorial service and celebration of Bob’s life will be held Sunday October 24th, 5pm at the Catavolos Funeral Home 3653 West market St. Fairlawn, where family will receive friends from 2pm until services. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to honor Bob’s legacy of giving to The Metro Parks Foundation 975 Treaty Line Rd. Akron Oh 44313. The funds will then be used to purchase a bench in Bob’s name. Dr. Jones made the choice to be remembered by living a memorable life.
