Born in Ashtabula, OH September 18, 1943.
At the age of 82, he went to be with his Lord Jesus on October 8, 2025.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no cemetery service.
Calling hours will be at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44333 on Saturday, October 25 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. There will be a USAF ceremony, and remembrances by Pastor Larry Knight.
Bill graduated from Revere High School in 1961 where he was a drummer in the marching band. He joined the Air Force in 1964 specializing in airplane maintenance, retiring after 21 years. Then he worked for Michelin Tire Co. in Dothan, AL for 19 years, making many friends there. His children and grandchildren lived in nearby Valdosta, GA where he could watch them grow.
He returned to Ohio in 2006 to his Ohio family members. He was an active member of the Brimfield Lions Club, and he took care of the 10-acre homestead before moving to Fairlawn, OH. During that time, he was a member of Akron Baptist Temple, and then later Connect Church in Coventry Township, Ohio where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He became a member of the long-standing Majestic Voice chorus, singing for more than 15 years at their concerts and nursing home visits. Bill's favorite song was Amazing Grace.
Bill joined the Air Force 355th Fighter Group Association, serving as treasurer and reunion coordinator for many years. He attended almost all the reunions over the years, enjoying swapping stories of service in Vietnam. He was fond of singing The National Anthem at their events. He recently attended the 100th birthday party of the oldest living member, Bill Lyons.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lionel Cook and Phyllis Corbin Cook, sisters Marybeth Cook, Cindy Cook, and brother Leslie Cook.
He leaves behind his wife Beverly Cook after 41 years and 9 months of marriage. He is survived by his first wife Linda Tlusty and their children Dana Durwin (Jim) and Dale Cook (Shannen); grandsons Austin, Chase, Sam, and Jenson; granddaughter Kaylyn; and five great-grandchildren in Georgia. In Ohio, he is survived by his niece Audrey Jo Olson, grandnieces Alison and Amelia, and their children; and stepchildren Jeffrey Zayda, Cicada Zayda, and Jennifer Wagar and her children Alexis, Colleen, and Delaney.
