Charles Floyd Cooper, 37, of Albion passed away at home on June 26th 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born January 11, 1980 to Floyd and Sharon (Kay) Locke Cooper in Eaton Rapids. Charles also know as Charlie or most likely Coop graduated from Springport high school in 1998 and began working construction with his dad. He was a skilled carpenter who could build anything from one of a kind personal gifts like shelves, corn hole boards and a wine rack, to kitchen cupboards to restoring and rebuilding historical buildings in downtown Kalamazoo, as well as adding several additions onto his home. He was very handy and could fix just about anything, from lawnmowers to plumbing to cars. He used these skills to become a successful subcontractor with his own construction business, working side by side with his dad. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed all kinds of hunting and fishing. Some of his fondest memories were spending time with his family outdoors. He loved his guns & had started building them recently completing his beloved "black betty". Charlie was very athletic wrestling and playing ball in high school.
Coop lived in Marshall for about 5 years, where he started playing slow pitch softball and met his ball family. As a beloved member of the softball community he was on the field 5-7 days a week, playing his heart out with many different teams. He always had a smile on his face, a positive attitude, & a word of encouragement. Coop was typically the leadoff hitter with a great bat, a knack for a solo home run, super speed, a golden glove with a talent for turning double plays, and a heck of an arm. In his last season of ball, in the summer of 2016, his 35 and older team were state champs and he was honored as a member of the all tournament team (MVP) and his ASA team won districts and were runners up in states and nationals. He was also very talented at and enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, throwing darts, paintball, and drawing.
In 2005 he met the love of his life, Kaity, they fell in love immediately, welcomed their 1st child, Ellyee Grace, in 2009 and made it official by getting married in 2011. Charlie loved his family above all else, followed by his truck of course! Ellyee and Charlie shared the love of his truck, the four wheeler, animals, hunting, the outdoors, drawing, fire, music and softball. He enjoyed watching her excel at anything she put her mind to, just like him. He loved watching her play soccer and dance. Ellyee was the light of his life. Charles enjoyed his many beagles, as well as breeding them, as he has always loved a beagle.
He is survived by his wife Kaity, daughter Ellyee, his parents Floyd & Kay Cooper, his sister Stacy Cooper and her children Charlie Kay, Daschel, and her expected baby Hadley, his mother-in-law Ann Adams, his sister & brother in law Maggie & Neal Dopp, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large group of close friends.
Charles was proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents (Jerry & Donna Cooper), maternal grandparents (Ralph & Dorothy Locke), Paternal Aunt (Peggy Cooper), Maternal Uncles (Gary, David, & Ralph Jr. Locke), his father-in-law (David Adams), and his angel baby.
Charlie was a gentle soul with an incredible smile who was a friend to all. He requested cremation with his remains spread by family in his favorite places. A Celebration of his life is planned for Sunday July 30, 2017 from 2:00 - 6:00 PM at the Ivy Barn, 18123 N Drive North, Marshall.
