Jim loved the outdoors. He liked fishing for walleye in Lake Erie and the Detroit River, hunting big game in Canada, Idaho, and Montana, deer hunting on the farm with his son and grandsons, and harness racing the horses he bred. He owned Triangle Plumbing, with his son Kevin, since 1983. He was also a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge #1798 – Albion.
He is survived by his children; Kim & Kerry Underhill of Parma, MI, Kerry Steiner & Larry Milliken of Springport, MI, and Kevin Chard of Albion, MI; sister, Penny Blair; brother-in-law, Donald (Jane) West; grandchildren, Chad (Katie) Steiner, Adam (Ali) Chard, Eric (Zandra) Chard, Kami (Casey) Green, Aaron (KiLea) Underhill, Devin (Erin) Underhill, and Courtney (Jeff) Tow; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Brylie Green, Brennan and Everett Chard, Zevyn Riddle, Brody and Levi Chard, Madison Mae and Brie Lynn Steiner, Charli Ann Underhill, Savannah Underhill, Cassidy Morton, and Jacob Tow, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Chard; his parents, Harold and Cleo Chard, daughter-in-law, Debbie (Kevin) Chard, brother, Rodney Chard, nephew, Bobby Briggs, brother-in-laws, Dylan Blair and Robert West, sibling-in-laws, Jean and Sonny Frazier, and parents-in-law, Versal and Edgar West.
Memorials can be made in Jim's memory to S.A.F.E. (Springport Area Foundation for Education) and Elks Lodge #1798 - Albion.
A visitation for Clarence will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr, Albion, Michigan 49224. A funeral service will take place the following day Friday, August 9, 2024 at 12:00 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home. Jim will be laid to rest at Clarence Center Cemetery following services.
