Gloria Ann (Wright) Francis, 84, was born in Albion, Michigan on May 14, 1936 at Sheldon Memorial hospital, to the parents of Leroy Wright and Rogean (Lafayette) Clark. She departed this life on October 3, 2020. At an early age she was baptized at the Leggett Chapel AME church. In 1977 she was then baptized in the Pentecostal Church of God. She lived a dedicated spiritual life, and served as an ordained praying woman, Sunday School teacher, financial steward, usher, and many other duties. The Albion, Pentecostal Church of God assembly began in her living room in 1977.
Sister Francis was a member of the Albion chapter of the NAACP and brought many changes to the community. She was a strong foundation in the Albion Public Schools system beginning at Crowell elementary school as a recruiter for the PTA and culminating in assisting parents in her community with multiple resources. Also, being effective in Harrington and Dalrymple schools as well. She served as the Parent Resource Coordinator and assistant to the principals and teachers. She was a Chapter Title One Homeschool Liaison Coordinator, providing support to the instructional program, with specific responsibilities for facilitating communication between the schools and home.
She is survived by her 8 children, James Brown, Jean Ann Brown Jordan, Elvarene Showers, and Deloris Johnson all of Albion. Sylvia (Keith) Gavin of Texas. Ervin (Roberta) Williams of New York. Lacondra (Steve) Stokes of Jackson, MI, and Damoni (Betsy) Wright of Oregon, and a special son and daughter Henry Williams II also of Texas and Kitty Peak of North Carolina. She has 24 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren. Three goddaughters, Irene Gamble, Faith Ann Williams and Joyce Kemp Evans; godson Rickie Johnson. Her nieces and nephews was like her children, Deanna Bradshaw, John Amos, Tynetta Amos, Pastor Albert Amos, host of cousins She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Deloris Williams, brother Leroy Wright Jr, both grandmothers, Hattie Lee Lafayette and Hattie Wright, her grandfather Lucious Lafayette, grandson
Antione James Brown, and special son-in-law Richard Showers Sr.
She was well known as, “Aunt Gloria” by many, and affectionally called “Sister G”, “Gizzle”, and “Nana Banana” by her children, grand and great grandchildren. She wore many hats. She counseled whoever was in need, both young and old. She was full of love, life, and energy, devoting herself to God, family, friends, community, and anyone who needed her time and resources. Her life is an example of selfless service to her family, church, and community. She was a woman of her word and shared the love of Jesus with everyone. Ms. Francis never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 12:30pm at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, MI 49224 with family hour starting at 10:00am prior to the service with Pastor Dwight Amos and Propitious Ruby Coats officiating.
Burial will follow at Albion Memory Gardens.
