

Gordon was born December 1, 1939 in Homer, MI to Gordon W. and L. Eva (Sweet) Chapman.
He graduated from Marshall High School then with his passion for cooking, he worked at Win Schuler’s in Marshall, Battle Creek Country Club, Morton House Hotel in Grand Rapids, and Owosso Country Club as a Chef.
Gordon was most proud of his career with Albion Public Safety. He began his career with the Albion Police Department as an auxiliary officer in 1967. After two years, he joined the Department full-time. He later cross-trained to become a fireman when the Department changed to Albion Public Safety. He was a Field Training Officer, Gunsmith, achieved Sergeant, and received a Medal of Honor, as well as, many other commendations.
After retiring, Gordon and Betty spent many winters in Texas on the beach. He also enjoyed his summers at his family cabin, cooking, hunting, trap shooting, and riding motorcycles and quads with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty L. (Frost) Chapman; son, Gordon Eric (Cindy) Chapman; grandchildren, Anthony (Leighann) Rheeder, Alex (John) Chapman, and Brad Gibbs; great-grandchildren, Braxton Gibbs and Ila Rheeder; brother, Terry Miller; best friends, Barry Beilfuss, Brad Beilfuss, Tim Stanley, Aaron Zick, Lee Zick, Dan Strowbridge, Dan Weller, Jeff Pluymers, and many nieces and nephews.
Gordon is preceded in death by his son, Rodney W. Chapman and his parents.
Services will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr. Albion, MI 49224. A Private Family Hour will take place from 11:00AM - 12:00PM, and friends are invited to join a Visitation from 12:00PM – 1:00PM with the Memorial Service to follow, beginning at 1:00PM. Gordon will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, Albion, MI following services.
