Joan "Jackie" Blondell Hill

13 November, 193411 October, 2021

Joan “Jackie” Blondell Hill was born in Albion, Michigan on November 13, 1934 to the union of Joseph and Odessa Snyder. Jackie was the second of four children born to this union. Living a life where love is at its best when shared, Jackie impacted everyone she touched.

After completing her education, Jackie went on to work in the healthcare sector of Battle Creek, Michigan at Leila Hospital as a patient care technician and, later on, as a home health caregiver in Albion, Michigan. As a devoted mother of eight, her nurturing care for her children and the entire neighborhood was unparalleled. Her compassionate demeanor and ability to be a friend to the friendless has served Jackie well as she participated in the Vogue Social Club and the Matrons Christian Club at Lewis Chapel AME. She took great pride in her ability lend a helping hand or even cook “mighty good” meal for those in need.

Constantly surrounded by friends and family, anyone who entered into Jackie’s presence knew that they were instantly and thoroughly loved. She fought a valiant fight and peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on October 11, 2021 surrounded by family. Jackie leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Gergory Etchison, Harold Etchison, Merrell Etchison, Yvonne “Dee Dee” (Lee) Norwood, Ronda “Lynn” Hill, and Johnny Hill; her devoted sisters Florence “Poochie” Etchison-Truss and Patsy “Pat” (Moses) Snyder-Lewis; special nephews and nieces Robin (Kelli) Etchison, Darshann (Bobby) Stevenson, Leah (Allen) Harris, Tina Etchison, and Marc Ware; 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews; special friends George Craig, Gina Tate, Sidra Redmond-Brown, Janyth Clark, Pam Brown, Dr. Mark Milton, IDMR, Johnny and Mertis Morris, and Min. Lester and Janice Covington; and an innumerable count of additional special friends and family members spanning several generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Odessa Snyder, former spouses Robert Etchison and John Hill, Sr., her sons Anthony “Tony” Etchison and Michael “Mike” Etchison, her sister Mary Ann Patterson, special friend Jackie Williams, and her loving granddaughter Jacquelynn Norwood.

Joan "Jackie" Blondell Hill

have a memory or condolence to add?

26 October 2021

To Jackie's Family:

I am so very sorry for the loss of your Mother, Sister, Aunt, Mother-in Law, Cousin, etc.

Jackie and I shared special moments of time in both of our lives that will forever bond us together. She was very strong willed, however very sweet to me. She absolutely loved and adored her children and family. One fond memory is she taught me how to cook cube steak, rice, and gravy. Because....according to Jackie... "her son had to eat"! We had many memories together, and I cherish each and everyone of them. If you want to know one that will make you laugh....just ask Poochie....she was there also. I will miss Jackie and our long telephone conversations, her laughter and love will remain forever in my heart.

I pray that God will continue to give each of you comfort, strength and His Peace that passes understanding, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

In Sympathy and Love,
Wanda Seabrook McKeever

Jackie and I shared and will always share a special day together which is our birthday, no matter how far the distance apart between us in miles, there was not ever any doubt that either she or myself would pick up the phone on the day that I shared with her, expressing birthday greetings, love, laughter, history, and an ear full of knowledge of the blood that flows through us, and so much more. That was the bond in which we beheld, so on our birthday this year, though it is going to be tough, not to pick up that phone, I will send up my birthday greetings and love to you in heaven. Jackie Rest Peacefully Forever More.
I send to you my family and those that are mourning my heartfelt condolences love and prayers.

Jackie was a phenomenal woman! I remember coming to her house after school and there would always be a hot meal on the stove and the house would be spotless.(Her house was always spotless). I was so impressed with how she always took care of her children, cooked and kept an immaculate house. Thanks for the wonderful memories Jackie. Rest well.
Blessings and Love

Mama Jackie, I'm still trying to accept your passing. I remember growing up and being at your home with Johnny. I was there so much you started including me when it was dinner time. You always had a encouraging word for me . I remember when you told me to always look out for my mother, because that will be the only mother that you will have. I miss you already. Take your rest now Mama Jackie ❤ until we meet again . Your with God now and that is the best place to be.

My thoughts and prayers remain with Jackie’s family as I remember Jackie, one of my family’s dearest life long friends connected by God as neighbors - I grew up with Jackie being one of my mom’s best friends and as years went by one of my dad’s best friends and finally as an adult Jackie became my friend! If you know/knew Jackie, you undoubtedly considered her among your friends because Jackie was an Extraordinary woman with the capacity to love & be loved without pretense or expectation - Jackie was relatable and always grounded in God’s Grace & I’m grateful God blessed my life with Jackie Hill…RIH Jackie & Thanks for your friendship/kinship…Love, Karen Morris
