I am very saddened to hear about the loss of John.  Although I lost touch with him over the years, I have fond memories of growing up knowing Van, John and the rest of the family.   I remember John's great enthusiasm for flying at a time when I too was learning at Brooks Field. I was always very happy to hear of John's success in pursuing his dream, and often looked fo him in the cockpit when stepping onto a commerical flight. 

  My heartfelt sympathies to the family, he will truely be missed.

John brought many wonderful memories to me by the extremely low flying passess in our neighborhood while I was a young adolescent.  He even offered advice to me about how he dealt with the pressures of commercial flying and being responsible for so many peoples lives.  John was confident and seemed to be invincible at times.  I will miss him.  Please know that in time peace will come over you and the "why's" in life may become a little more clearer.

Uncle John was one of the coolest people I've ever known.  I remember during one family reunion him taking the nieces and nephews for plane rides in a Cessna and flying over our house on B Drive, and the time he buzzed the farm in a Lear jet. Dear Hoffman Family: I very much enjoyed working with John at Continental Airlines. We shared many a story in the cockpit talking about hunting and fishing and flying. Ben a long time but in the corner of my mind I remember summers on the farm. That place I went to as a child.
It brings a smile to my face as I sit and type and think of John then.
I remember him talking about his dream to fly and to know at the end of the day not all of us can say our dream came true. 
I too love hunting, fishing, motorcycles and continue to keep my pilot licence current. The years fly by and now at 55 I wish I had stayed in touch but with military moves and life as it goes we some times drift away. John will be in my thoughts. My prayers are with you Janet and the family.
