John was known for his quick wit and sarcastic humor; he taught his children to find laughter in even the toughest of moments. John had an incredible passion for cars, a thrill for racing, loved traveling and camping, and enjoyed baking from recipes he spent years perfecting with his father at Albion Pastry Company, the family business.
He spent countless hours in the garage, where among others, he rebuilt a ’40 Ford which he proudly drove and showcased at many car shows; places he met a lot of his wonderful friends and built relationships that lasted forever. He loved attending his family reunions, where he felt most comfortable and at home, and reminiscing about racing at Onondaga Speedway (or a back road) with his life-long friends.
John is survived by his children from his first marriage, Deborah Slaughter and Stacey (Roger DeWitt) Slaughter, his grandchildren, Nicholas (Brittany), Joshua (Lauren), Dustin (Brenda) and Amanda, great-grandchildren, Orion and Henry, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents Ivan and Elizabeth (Betty), brother Tom and wife Judy.
To honor our father’s wishes, cremation and a private ceremony have taken place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
