Velma Lewis (Womack) age 88 of Albion entered into the Kingdom of God on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 under the loving care of her family. She was born April 7, 1930 in Greenville, Alabama the 11th daughter of 16 children born to Kyser and Lola Mae (Bell). She was educated at Pilgrim Rest, Baptist Hill and Greenville Training School in Greenville, Alabama.
Preceding her in death are both parents, twin sister, Helen Lewis, sisters, Jannette (in infancy), Kate Hudson, Minnie Williams, Irene Adams, Menneatory Davis, Catherine Winfrey, Mamie Randolph, brothers, Leonard Lewis, Terry Lewis and Jake Lewis.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Missionary Church where she was a member of the Sunday school, youth choir and the Sunshine Band. Later, she became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Albion.
Velma was kind and loving and had the natural spirit of a caregiver, always taking care of others.
She leaves to cherish her memory 2 sons: Ernest Womack, Harold (Minnie) Womack, sisters, Elizabeth Carter, Vera Simpson, Dorothy Watson, brother, Calvin Lewis, grandchildren, Marcus (Jacqueline) Womack, Jason Womack, Gregory (Micaela) Womack and Jermaine Potts and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services to celebrate Velma’s home going will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 with family hour at 11AM until the service time at 12PM at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1200 State St., Albion with Pastor Charlie J. Jones officiating.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, Albion.
