Willie Mae Haynes Johnson age 95, was granted her angel wings on May 28, 2021. For the last several years she was well cared for by her daughter Althea Johnson, grandson Michael Johnson II and her granddaughter Renee Miller. Willie was born April 27, 1926 in Louisville, Arkansas to Willie “Bo” Haynes and Pearl (Holmes) Haynes. Mrs. Johnson grew up as a country girl, the oldest of 14 children whom she helped to raise.
She attended and graduated school in Arkansas. She let shortly after, and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where she met and married the late Willis “Honey” Johnson. In 1944, they moved to Albion, MI where they planted roots and started a family, and born to their union was eight children that she adored. Willie worked in dietary all of her life, first for Albion College and then later for The Albion Manor Nursing Home, where she remained as the head cook until her retirement. She attended Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church for many years and later moved her membership to Mt. Calvary Baptist under the leadership of Rev. Charlie Joe Jones where she was a church mother. Our mom and grandma was an amazing woman, who was well known for her well-kept yard that was always full of beautiful flowers, her great tasting Peanut Brittle and the family favorite dish; “Squash Dressing”. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and spending time with her family. She exemplified what a Provers 31 woman means. She was honorable, hardworking, always classy, and was wise beyond measure. She will be dearly missed by us all.
