Thomson, John Oliver, 83, of Knoxville passed away on October 28, 2013. He was born on February 2, 1930, to Winslow Edward Thomson and Elizabeth Oliver Thomson, who along with his sister, Cynthia Peters, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Thomson; daughters Katherine Thomson Umali of El Cerrito, California, and Cynthia Thomson Warner of Holland, Ohio, son Edward Oliver Thomson of Knoxville; granddaughters Isabel and Caroline Umali, grandson, Jonathon Joshua Warner, and step-granddaughter Jessica Kelso and her children. John Oliver was a physics professor at the University of Tennessee. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 to 3:30 Sunday November 3, 2013 at Sherwood Chapel, 3176 Airport Highway, Alcoa, followed by a service at 3:30 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Joy of Music School, 1209 Euclid Avenue, Knoxville, or the University of Tennessee Music Department.
