Roger Lee Phillips, 71, passed away December 2, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with ALS. As the disease slowly robbed him of the ability to do the things he loved, he never complained and managed to keep his humor and loving spirit. Roger is now made whole in the presence of his Lord and Savior.
Roger was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, and a graduate of Central High School where he excelled in sports. One of his fondest memories was playing softball on a traveling team and the friendships developed there remain today. He was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. Roger leaves behind his wife and best friend Diane, whom he loved wholeheartedly. Their time together was nothing short of a love story. Roger and Diane enjoyed golfing and traveling together, especially their beach trips. They also enjoyed the simple times together, including the many hours they spent sitting on the deck talking. Roger will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Roger was preceded in death by his father Kenneth, his mother Opal, brother Denny and sister Becky.
In addition to his wife, Diane, Roger is survived by his sons, Justin (Ellen) Phillips of Knoxville, Lance (Dee) Phillips of Clarksville, and Jake Phillips of Hendersonville; his stepsons Justin Brown (Jodi) of Knoxville and Brent Brown (Elizabeth) of Portland, OR; his grandchildren that he loved dearly, Darcy, Audry, Zoe, Lawson, Hudson, Hayden, Haley, Jarrett and Jaxon; his sister, Missy (BJ) Keeton; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Cindy Hubbs; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Lindsay; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend David Campbell, along with many others.
We want to express a special thanks to Smoky Mountain Hospice for the care and love shown to us during this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2021, 6:30 pm at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, 701 Merchant Drive, Knoxville. Immediately following the service, the family will be available for visitation in the church atrium. Online condolences and fond memories may be extended to the family at sherwoodchapel.com
