Annetta (Strom) Fuchs

Annetta Fuchs was born at home in Golden Prairie / Fox Valley near Assiniboia / Maxstone, Saskatchewan on November 13, 1922. She passed away peacefully at Menno Hospital in Abbotsford, British Columbia at age 100 on Thursday July 27, 2023.

Annetta was the eldest of 7 children (5 girls & 2 boys) & was born to Johannes (John) Strom & Lydia (Hepper) Strom.

She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Fuchs, parents, brother Alton (Tony) Strom, sisters Isabella (Strom) Gledhill & Tillie (Strom) Neilson.

She is survived by son Alexander Fuchs of South Surrey & daughter Beverley Beck (husband Dennis) of Abbotsford. Along with 3 grandchildren Ryan Fuchs in Australia, Jason Beck (wife Nicole) of Langley, Travis Beck (wife Tina) in Abbotsford & 1 granddaughter Marin Beck (husband John Kraemer) in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has 4 great-grandchildren Jeremy Beck, Leah Beck, Alice & Norah Kraemer.

She is survived by sisters Ruth (Strom) Sammartino, Ruby (Strom) Kemle, brother Ormand Strom & many nieces & nephews.

She went to school until grade 5 or 6 & then in her teens went to work for other families doing housework & childcare in their homes.

Annetta married Wilhelm (William / Bill) Fuchs on November 27, 1940 in Assiniboia, SK. They were married for almost 69 years at the time of Bill’s passing November 2009 in his 100th year.

They lived in Assiniboia, SK where they farmed until 1946.

Their son Alexander Fuchs was born in October 1942 in Assiniboia SK.

In 1944 Anne & her son Alex visited her parents in Aldergrove BC.

In 1946 Anne & Bill & Alex moved to & rented a house in Aldergrove BC located north of the naval base on Jackman Road (272nd St) in Aldergrove BC.

Their daughter Beverley Beck nee Fuchs was born Feb 1958 in Murrayville BC.

In 1960 they purchased a house on Fraser Highway in Aldergrove which was located next to Bill’s Auto Body. Anne lived in this house until 2015.

Anne moved to Gateway Assisted Living Seniors Home in Surrey BC in September 2015 where she lived to May 2017.

She took up residence in Menno Hospital (E1) in May 2017 where she lived & was well cared for until her passing.

She lived through & survived the Dirty Thirties, the Depression & Second World War. This is what made her a very strong woman who lived almost to the age of 101. She celebrated her 100th birthday with family & friends in November 2022. She was especially pleased to receive Congratulatory Messages from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She always said that she wanted to live as long as a couple of her aunties and she achieved her goal!!!

Anne enjoyed many Easter, Thanksgiving & Christmas family gatherings at the home of her parents John & Lydia Strom on Jackman Road in Aldergrove (now 272nd Street). There was a yard full of cars, lots of delicious food with everyone visiting & having a good time!

She enjoyed & had a passion for growing flowers & vegetables / gardening, crocheting / handiwork.

She enjoyed travelling with husband Bill & her sister Tillie Neilson to Alberta, Saskatchewan & United States visiting relatives & to family reunions.

Both Anne & Bill were members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Aldergrove BC for many years & later Trinity Lutheran Church in Abbotsford BC where they attended weekly services.

We would like to send many thanks, hugs & much love to the staff at Menno Hospital (E1) for caring for Mom during the final years of her life.

A graveside service & burial will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 @ Langley Lawn Cemetery.
