It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Munro on March 14 2025 at the age of 95. Doris was born in the small town of Verwood, Saskatchewan on May 11, 1929, to George and Minnie Wenaus. She was raised on her family farm in Verwood with 4 siblings: her sisters, Beatrice and Bernice, her brothers Harold, and Calvin.
She is survived by: her sister, Bernice: her children, Darell (Barb), Debbie (Ken), Gary (Jenifer): her (6) grandchildren Mathew, Ryan, Michelle, Sean, Meghan and Olivia: and her (7) great grand-children and her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents George and Minnie, her husband Don, her brothers, Harold and Calvin, and her sister Beatrice.
She met her husband, Don, in Regina and they married in a small church in Verwood on May 30, 1953. Doris had a short office career in the bank until they moved to Vancouver, BC to pursue Don's career and begin their family.
Together they began a wonderful life in North Vancouver. They built the family home at the foot of Grouse Mountain where they raised their 3 children, and had many wonderful neighborhood friendships. They bought a family cabin in Whistler which the family enjoyed for years. At the time of their retirement, they left their North Van home of 37 years and moved to White Rock, B.C. After her husband passed away, Doris moved to Chilliwack in 2021 to be close to her daughter.
Doris’s life was all about her family, both immediate and extended. When her children were young, she loved taking them on train trips to Regina and Moose Jaw to spend time with their aunts, uncles and cousins. Time spent in Saskatchewan, Katepwa Lake and Whistler was always an important part of her life.
Doris loved: playing cards with her friends, watching the Saskatchewan curling teams win the bonspiels, the Vancouver Canucks during their winning streaks, knitting, needlepoint, reading, long walks on the seawall with Don, and spoiling her pets. There was a very brief love for tennis when her friend offered her tennis lessons.
She was a kind and caring woman who made many friends over the years. She loved her friends at Lynnwood Chartwell Residence where she was living at the time of her passing.
She will be missed.
