Sitting at my dad’s side, his hand in mine, low lights and soft music playing, he peacefully left us.
Elbert always lived his life with a great sense of adventure, living and working in many places. From working to build the Dempster Highway to the Yukon, to owning and running Pederson’s Mobile Tires in Vancouver, with his final 10 years working at the student dental store at UBC.
He retired to Kelowna where he loved working in his shop building bird houses and repairing small engines. Elbert was known for his amazing rose gardens, the tall sunflowers lining his driveway and growing tomatoes for canning. Elbert enjoyed cooking and you were always guaranteed a meal in the form of pancake breakfasts, homemade soups or spaghetti dinners with apple pie. In his quiet times he was often found sitting in the living room playing his guitar.
He loved his road trips and he didn’t think anything of filling his thermos, packing a sandwich and off he would go. He travelled many hours to visit family and friends from Alberta to his home Province of Saskatchewan. As much as he loved his travels, his door was always open and his guest room always ready.
Elbert made friends easily, charming almost all who came into his life, he lived knowing he was loved by many.
I feel like a winning racecar driver, there are so many people to remember and I don’t want to miss anyone. So, in saying that, Elbert touched many lives and he will be greatly missed by all.
Rest in peace dear Elbert.
