Jae Kathleen Hannah (nee Myers) passed away on March 30, 2025, at Abbotsford Hospital at age 77 years after a long and determined fight with thyroid cancer. She was born in Vancouver, BC, to Gordon and Muriel Myers in 1947. Jae is survived by her daughter Samantha, son Callum, granddaughter Madeline, and her two brothers and one sister, Tim, Bob, and Holly, and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 2013 by her husband of 44 years, John Hannah.
Jae was one of the first two women who worked for Telus (then BC Tel) on the racks of telecommunications equipment. When she had her children, she decided to be a stay-at-home mother. In fact, she was so good at it, Jae became a mother to many, running a home daycare business for more than 30 years. She was a strong family matriarch with a keen intellect and a healthy dose of common sense, both of which she maintained and augmented through her love of reading. Jae enjoyed travelling with her husband to far-off places like Hawai’i, Hong Kong, the Caribbean, and the UK, and in recent times, going on cruises or backcountry camping in BC with family and friends.
Jae’s life had a huge impact on everyone she met – children and adults alike – as a wise, compassionate, yet straight-shooting soul. Her guidance and unwavering, stoic love will be sorely missed by her family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at the family home on April 19 at 3pm. Please contact one of her children if you would like to attend. Donations to BC Cancer or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
