He was predeceased 2 years and 2 days before his passing by his loving wife of over 70 years, Georgina (Geo).
He was known by various affectionate names by his 7 grandchildren – Craig (Shari) and Eric (Cam) who called him Poc (shortened from Papa Curly); to Sam (Maddy) and Amanda (Stefan) he was known as Papa and to Calina (Nick), Tara (Brandon) and Britt he was Grandpa.
16 great grandchildren – Malachi, Olivia, Payton, Elisha, Devin, Amanda Kate, Myah, Hannah, Rebeka, Ariana, Keziah, Aylah, Ezra, Brinley, Elizabeth and Emerson – two of his great grandchildren lovingly came up with their own name and called him “Pocaroni” – because he made the very best macaroni.
Ken, being a man who was good with numbers, spent most of his working life in accounting/auditing positions – Westminster Fish Company, Federal Government, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Perhaps why he always wore a shirt with a pocket to have a pen on the ready.
Ken and Geo spent most of their lives living in New Westminster - where he and all his children were born and raised, and he coached his sons’ hockey and lacrosse teams. They also had homes in Prince George and briefly at Shuswap Lake. They were both proud of the fact that they were able to take early retirement in their 50’s.
Ken loved to play the piano, a skill he learned by observing his friend’s lessons (basically self taught) and thoroughly enjoyed playing for his family and friends. He loved to spend time with his family, going to the casino, playing bingo, watching cartoons and he especially loved to laugh.
He had a voracious appetite even up till his last days, but he especially loved DQ ice cream and a Wendy’s frosty!
Ken spent the last 4 years of his life living at the Foyer Maillard Long Term Care Home – where he was loved by all the staff and known as a kind and gentle man who always had a ready smile even when he couldn’t hear what was being said.
It is hard to sum up 95 years of a person’s life with a small obituary, but suffice it to say, he has left behind a legacy of love, laughter and kindness.
Ken will truly be missed.
