He died suddenly on August 25, 2026 with his wife by his side.
Bert had taken good care of his heart for nearly 30 years after his bypass surgery in 1997. He was very active, loved life, had a passion for music, travelling and playing games with friends and family.
Bert was born 1949, the 2nd youngest of 10 siblings in Lieshout, Holland. His family emigrated to Canada and settled in Ontario when he was 1 1/2 years old. In the mid 70’s Bert moved to BC where he married Valerie in 1988.
He is predeceased by his parents Johannes and Antonia Koppens, his siblings Elizabeth Koomen, Martin Koppens, John Koppens, George Koppens, and Renie Koppens, brothers in law Peter Koomen, Harry Van de Ven, sisters in law Kathy, Christine, Laura.
He is survived by his loving wife Valerie, brothers Carl, William (Betty), sisters Chris, Jeannie (Bill) and sister in law Marion as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be held Thursday, September 10, 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 20676 Fraser Hwy, Langley.
