Born and raised in Vancouver by his parents alongside his seven siblings, Murray, was a naturally gifted athlete. He attended Sir Charles Tupper High School, where he excelled as a member of their Rugby team. As a teenager, Murray took up hockey, and after perfecting his skills as a goalie, was invited to try out for the Vancouver Canucks. In 1974, he received an invitation to participate in their acclaimed training academy. After an unfortunate, career limiting injury, Murray founded the Double M Goal-Tending academy, playing a pivotal role in the mentorship and development of aspiring goalies, many of whom ascended to pursue careers within the NHL.
In 1967, Murray met the love of his life, Sheri, at the Riley Park Ice Rink – it was love at first sight. After their marriage in 1972 and over 53 wonderful years, Murray and Sheri shared their lives, venturing across the country; living in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto, while raising their two loving children, Christopher and Ryan.
Ultimately settling in a suburb of Vancouver, Murray’s greatest love and most privileged achievements were founded upon his devotion as a husband, father of Christopher and Ryan and the ever loving “Popi” to Connor and Madison. Not a moment passed when he was not proud and honored to have them as part of his life.
For those who knew Murray the best, he was unapologetic in his acceptance and kindness towards others, he welcomed everyone with open arms and an open heart. He was the keeper of our family’s memories and embraced his role as the protector of our family traditions.
Murray is survived by his loving wife Sheri, his son Christopher, daughter Ryan, beautiful grandchildren, Connor and Madison; his adopted children, his son, Nick, daughter Christina, and grandchildren, Addisen & Aren; along with his beloved extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Murray’s kindness and loving spirit will be remembered by all who knew him and he will forever be missed and cherished.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to Honour his memory by making a donation to the charity of your choice in Murray’s name. A celebration of life will be held, with more details to come.
