Peter Klynsoon, in his 86th year, passed away on June 12, 2026, in Abbotsford. He was born on August 31, 1940, to Fred and Henrika Klynsoon in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nina; his brothers, Chris, Tom, Charles, and Fritz; and his sister, Rie. He is survived by his brother Hank, as well as his children.
Peter proudly served in the Netherlands 13th Princess Irene Brigade. After immigrating to Canada, he dedicated his career to working as a machinist with Burrard Dry Dock. Over the years, Peter stayed busy with countless hobbies and organizations. He could often be found tending his garden or smoking salmon in an old wooden fridge. As an original member of the Tynehead Hatchery, Peter was deeply proud of his work enhancing salmon habitats, and he always looked forward to the big event of raising and releasing salmon fry. An avid woodworker, Peter created everything from furniture to toys, always dreaming up new projects. He took immense pride in the trunks he built for the Stepping Stone annual Craft Fair. While Mom knitted away, Dad worked on the trunks—it was a labor of love for them both. On weekends, you would often find Mom and Dad searching for treasures at local flea markets and garage sales. Summers were always an adventure, with Peter taking the family camping all over BC in a van he camperized himself, traveling everywhere from Zuiderzee Campground to a houseboat trip up Salmon Arm and family gatherings in Spences Bridge.
Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, one could say a religion! Peter spent his time at favorite spots across the Lower Mainland, or on the Thompson River alongside his brothers and father. For 20 years, he cherished his time at the cabin on Nahatlatch Lake, fishing all the secret spots.
Peter treasured the lifetime of conversations he shared with friends, family, and strangers alike.
"Goodbye to you all with fondest memories." — Peter
