Born March 6, 1961
Died May 12, 2022
His family called him “Bobby” - His friends Called him “Robert”
He will be remembered for his quiet nature and his good sense of humour.
He is survived by his parents Reverend Bob and Joan (Evans) Leslie of Wilkie SK. His older sister Rhonda (David) Herrod and three nephews Ryan, Joel and Colin, their spouses Candice, Kristina and Katie, three great nieces and three great nephews of Surrey BC. His younger brother Steven Leslie of Wilkie SK. and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
As a young teen he enjoyed playing hockey and hanging with friends. He was an average student in school. On January 1, 1980 he was seriously injured in an auto accident. He remained in a coma for twenty-one days and was not expected to survive his injuries. God was merciful and spared his life at that time.
While he was recovering, he made a commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. His insurance company paid for his expenses at Christ for the Nations Bible College. His plan was to serve God by helping people. He did not complete the full 2 years of study.
Bobby went to Stoughton SK. with his parents, they were called to pastor a church in that community. He worked for a few months, but left to find work in Regina SK. He eventually moved to Vancouver, BC.
In 1983, he chose not to stay in communication with Family, ended up living on Hastings St. at this time made poor choices and as a result of the brain injury he became unemployable.
November 17, 1993, he met and married Doris Irene Rathke. His mother Joan and Aunt Connie attended and helped with the arrangements for the wedding at 1st United Church of Vancouver, BC. “Wedding of the Year” It was a wonderful joyous occasion experienced by all.
1 John 3: 16-18 But we know love by this, that he laid down His life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for our brethren. Bobby and Doris attended Family fellowship at 1st United Church for two or three years The group met every Wednesday. Bobby always had a Love for God even during his street years. Sadly, the marriage broke down after ten years. Doris’ where-abouts is not known. We received a report that she had moved to Vancouver Island BC. And is presumed deceased. They did not have children.
The Last years of Bobby’s life would find him around the 1600 Block of Hastings Street, where he was well known to panhandle.
Bobby suffered from epilepsy as a result of the Brain injury in 1980 so we are thankful for the Ministry of social services, government of British Columbia provision for his disability.
“BOBBY IS GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN” Submitted by his Mom, Joan Leslie.
