Annie Mae Bishop was born on November 1, 1926, in Fulton, Mississippi, to Ruth and Allen Floyd. When she was seven years old, the family moved to Fort White, Florida, during the Great Depression. Jobs were scarce, and the family relocated wherever work could be found. After several years in Florida, they eventually moved to Burnsville, Mississippi, where Annie Mae attended school.
Following her graduation, Annie Mae moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she worked for Western Union.
In 1942, she met Paul Bishop at a basketball game in Fulton, Mississippi, shortly before he was drafted into the Army during World War II and stationed in Hawaii. Although they did not see each other for several years, they stayed in touch through letters. After Paul returned from service and they reunited, they married and shared 64 years together.
Annie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Allen Floyd; her husband, Paul Bishop; and her oldest daughter, Lee Thompson (Mitchell).
She was a faithful member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church until moving to Scott, Arkansas, where she joined Toltec Baptist Church. Annie Mae had a beautiful singing voice and sang in church choirs, even performing in a men's quartet when she was 14 years old. She taught Sunday School for many years and found great joy in serving others.
She especially enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends, working in her garden, and sharing the vegetables she grew. Annie Mae loved to read and always had a book close by until her eyesight began to fade. She was also a talented artist, and many of her paintings remain cherished in the homes of family members.
She is survived by her son, Allen Bishop (Donna) of Corsicana, Texas; daughters Paulette Gunn (Dill) of Greenbrier, Arkansas, and Annette Bishop of Monroe, Washington.
Grandchildren include Justin Thompson (Keli) of Canton, Mississippi; BJ Maack (Kathryn) of Little Rock, Arkansas; Laura Perez (Manny) of Fifty-Six, Arkansas Melanie Henderson (Jason) of Wildwood, Missouri; and Allison Farris (Wes) of Houston, Texas.
