On August 8, 1966, David Wayne Smart entered this world and for 57 years, 10 months and 3 days, he made an unforgettable impact on every person he ever met. David has spent his entire life in Bryant. From birth he was hauled to the lake by his parents and grandparents to camp and fish, and to deer camp where he learned to hunt everything from squirrels to elk. He had a great passion for both. He started playing sports about the time he could walk from teeny league baseball, youth basketball, Jr high and high school football and track. He went on to living the dream of playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks #73. He is a 1984 graduate of Bryant High School and has a portfolio of awards… All State, All Conference, Boys State, 4A Conference Outstanding Offensive Lineman, 1983 AR All Star Game West Team. He was also a member of the 4A Associated Press Super Team (1st team) and a National All Star. He held state records for longest Shot Put and Discus throw until a few years ago. He was inducted into the Bryant Athletic Hall of Honors in 2019. He went on from the U of A to UALR where he completed his degree in Marketing in 1993 then built his company, Smart Construction. He has built and renovated homes all over the central AR. He enjoyed helping and fixing things for people and took great pride in his work.
His other passion was the love of his life Caryn and they married 9/30/95. They loved to travel, spend time at Lake Ouachita or anywhere there was water. He loved his family and his friends with all his heart. He was stubborn, grumpy, hysterically funny, loving, dedicated, loyal, dependable and had the biggest heart. He would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. David was able to donate his beautiful green eyes and give the gift of sight.
He has now been reunited with his parents Larry & Shirley Smart, nephew Cody Brice Sewell, grandparents D.E. “Dub” & Alma Smart and Jessi & June Brakebill, Uncles Jack Smart and Leonard Burrow, Aunt Mary Foutch, In-laws Bill & Gaynelle Smith.
