Don was known as a quiet and gentle man who loved nature and was happiest when he was outdoors, whether it was gardening, fishing, or the many years he spent at his deer camp. In his younger years he was active in sports as an avid tennis player and once pitched a no-hitter as a high school baseball player. His other interests included reading, including the entire newspaper each day, and there is no way to count all the times he watched The Andy Griffith Show.
Don was born in Drumright, OK, graduated from high school in Centralia, IL, and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL. He had lived in Little Rock, AR since 1964 and worked for USF&G for 32 years as an insurance auditor.
Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice; son Mark (Vicki); daughter Christina (Larry Chappell); grandsons Cayman Botner, Jacob Chappell, and Benjamin Chappell; and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and all three siblings.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Little Rock, AR, where Don was a member for 50+ years and served in many capacities including Chair of the Board of Trustees.
