Jack Arnold Griebel Sr.

19 November, 192625 April, 2021

Jack A. Griebel, Sr, passed peacefully in his home with his 2 sons present on April 25, 2021 at age 94. Born to parents Theodore Adolph Griebel and Lucille Woods Griebel in 1926, Jack grew up in North Little Rock Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Mildred Griebel.

Jack faced many hardships in his early life. A victim of the banking collapse that led to the Great Depression, the family moved into a houseboat on the Arkansas River at the base of the Baring Cross railroad bridge. Surviving polio at age 5, he was left unable to participate in games involving running, and learned to entertain himself by mastering the family’s rowboat on the River.

After graduating highschool he became involved in the magazine and newspaper distribution business, and eventually established Jack’s Newstand, where he was the distributor of the Chicago Daily Racing Form for many years.

A man of many talents, he became proficient in vegetable gardening on a commercial scale. As he grew older he established a small engine repair business. He enjoyed children and had an uncanny ability to calm young children.

He is survived by his two sons Jack Griebel, Jr., Andy Griebel, and Granddaughters Lauren, Greer and Meredith Griebel.

A reception will begin at Noon on May 7 at the PineCrest Funeral Home, followed by funeral at 2pm and graveside ceremony at 3pm at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Geyer Spring First Baptist Church.

Jack was not only my brother but a Father figure after our Dad died.
He worked two jobs to put my siblings and me through school. I don’t know any other 19 year old that would take on that responsibility. In my book, he is the best person I have ever known in my 83 years.
Rest in peace for a life well lived.

Jack and Andy, I was sorry to learn of your dad's passing. I remember him as a person who truly loved God and his sweet Milly. I, also, remember he always "told it like it was," when asked for his opinion--such a great guy!
