Myrle Maxine Calder (nee Merritt) went to be with her Lord on October 12, 2021. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Calder, her parents Christelle White (Alvin) and Maxie Merritt (Beth).
Maxine was born on August 14th, 1923 in Little Rock. She attended Little Rock High, where the boys would call her, “mmm” after her initials. It was during high school that she met her husband of 73 years. The two were introduced on a blind date at Willow Springs Beach. When Tom set sail aboard the USS Hornet to fight in WWII, Maxine waved goodbye from the window of her hotel, having made the only solo trip of her life to see him off.
Maxine taught Sunday school, served as youth counselor in Walther League, as president of the local chapter of the LWML, and prepared meals for the Lutheran Blind Mission. Indeed, her cooking was so well loved that people came from all over to enjoy her Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner prepared as a LWML fundraiser. At home she was the bookkeeper for the Calder Plumbing Company.
Maxine is survived by her daughter Kim Calder-Isgrig (Mike), her brothers Alvin White (Janice) and Tommy Merritt (Leslie), three grandchildren, Reveille Isgrig (Connor Dougherty), Alison Beasley (Chris), and Zeke Isgrig (Kristina), as well as five great-grandchildren.
No need to wave through that hotel window anymore Maxine! Walk through those gates and you will find your Tom waiting to join you in eternity.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday October 17, 2021 3-5pm at Pinecrest Funeral Home, 7401 Highway 5 North, Alexander.
