Bob will be lovingly remembered for his humble and down-to-Earth personality. He proudly served his country for twenty years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer. In his military career, he served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and earned a Silver Star. After retiring from the Navy, Bob worked for Timex, then for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed gardening and was especially proud of the tomatoes he grew. He loved God and was well versed in the Bible. He and his wife faithfully attended Natural Steps Baptist Church for many years. Above all else, Bob loved his family, and enjoyed every moment he could with them. He was fiercely protective of them and was willing to give anything his family needed or wanted.
Those left to cherish the memories of Bob include his wife of seventy years, Dorlene Altman; children, Patricia Vick and Terry Altman; grandchildren, Erin (Ryan) Gildner and Erich “Harry” Lah; great-grandchildren, Hagen and Koen Gildner; and sister A. Myrtle (Altman) Mercer.
