Vickie Sondra Hirschi, 81, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born on August 23, 1943, in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Clarence Evan Gunnell and Theda June Smedley. Vickie was preceded in death by her mother, Theda June Smedley, her father Clarence Evan Gunnell, her oldest daughter Penni Dee Leavitt, Lexie Marie Thomas (Cassi) and her husband Gerald MacRay Hirschi and her grandparents.
Vickie was the oldest of four children. Marty (Lila) Gunnell, Randy (Susan) Gunnell, and Tauni Roethel. Growing up, she loved Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Patsey Cline, and more. Vickie went to Soda Springs High School. She was popular in high school, was voted the "Nicest Legs," and she was a cheerleader. All her friends nicknamed her “Red” for her beautiful red hair. Vickie worked during high school at the local drug store and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She married Morgan Dee Leavitt, and they had 3 girls, her 1st born Penni Dee Leavitt, 3 years later, she had Tori Dee Leavitt and their last child, Heidi Dee Leavitt. She loved being a mother of girls. She often talked about music she sang with her girls and the memories she made. She loved being a mom, and at 34 years old, she married Billy Greg Kinder and had another little girl named Korri Dawn Kinder at age 36.
In 1984, she met the love of her life, Gerald MacRay Hirschi, and they married in 1985.
Vickie was a beautiful soul. She was hilarious, caring, and loving, but most of all, just herself. Anyone who knew her knew that she loved to get all dolled up to go anywhere. She loved TV shows about history and true crime. Vickie loved antiques, dogs, and Fenton Glass, her Hall Vases she has such a beautiful collection. And she always had to have her "chocolate suckers." She had wonderful taste in clothing and jewelry. She absolutely loved her Pepsi (Arkansas Pepsi) her youngest, Korri, got her to drink Pepsi Zero; trying to get her diabetes under control when she brought her to Arkansas to take care of her. After a few days of drinking it, she asked if it was diet, and we told her it was "Arkansas Pepsi."
Korri brought her to Arkansas on January 6th and did a lot to make her comfortable in her home. Two days later, she got sick and was admitted to the hospital to be treated for pneumonia, a COPD flare-up, and congestive heart failure. Korri (Gregg) brought her back to their home, and she declined rapidly. Korri took such good care of her around the clock; making her comfortable as she was transitioning into God's hands, passing away peacefully with all of us surrounding her.
We all questioned why her time in Arkansas was so short, but we believe that she kept her strength so she would be able to travel and be with family. Our mother had a lot of health problems throughout the last 15 years, and all of her "girls" were able to take care of and help her during these times. We are grateful for her legacy and all she always did to help each of us. Watching her struggle with many illnesses was difficult, and we are grateful that she is no longer in pain and with her husband, oldest daughter, and her parents, among other family members.
Vickie leaves behind her children, Tori Dee Leavitt, Heidi Dee Leavitt, Korri "Kinder" (Gregg) Sutton, and James Buckley Mays. Vickie is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren and Also, her sweet puppy Pixxi, whom she adored, and many friends that cared for and loved her.
We will be having a memorial for Vickie on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, at 2pm.
