It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Jean Farias, a beloved wife, mother, sister, nana, aunt, and cherished friend, who left us peacefully on June 4, 2025, at the age of 67, after a brief illness surrounded by her family.
Born on August 5, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, to Bill and Ann Liggett, Barb was known for her strength, warmth, and spirited sassy personality. She initially pursued a career as a hairdresser, but her true calling was serving her community as a pretrial booking officer with the Lucas County Common Pleas Court in Toledo for nearly three decades. Later in life, she and her husband Pedro relocated to Leonardtown, Maryland, where she worked with the St. Mary’s School District’s safety and security team.
Barb was a woman of fierce love and honesty, never afraid to speak her mind and always ready with a kind word or a sassy bold remark. She had a contagious smile that lit up every room she entered, and a deep love for children. She was a passionate advocate for children with disabilities, speaking out passionately to ensure every child received the love and support they deserved. Her vibrant spirit and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She married her soulmate, Pedro Jose Farias, in August 1988, and together they shared a lifetime of love and memories. Barb was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Westfall; her brother, Al Liggett; and her parents. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Pedro, her children Heather (Ryan) Hawk, Jason (Ashley) Lewellen, and Pedro Jose Farias II, along with her eight grandchildren—Brendan, Morgyn, Madisen Hawk, Abigaile Lewellen, Sariah and Seth Blose, Alex Holman, and Logan Sargent. She is also survived by her sister Jerrilyn (John) Colvin, brothers Nick (Anita) Liggett and Randy (Cindy) Liggett, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and her loyal canine companion, Carlitos.
Barb and Pedro’s dreams of retirement and sunny days on Florida beaches were bright spots for her, and she loved to envision the relaxing days ahead.
In lieu of flowers or donations, her family encourages everyone to embrace life with strength and courage, living each day without regrets, just as Barb did.
Her lively spirit, contagious smile, deep love for children, and her passionate voice for children with disabilities will be dearly missed. Her legacy of love and resilience will forever remain in the hearts of all she touched.
Rest in peace, Barb. You are forever loved and deeply missed.
