Born on July 29, 1969 in Lexington, Kentucky, Carlos was the son of Russell Godby and Mary Elizabeth Hill. Carlos grew up in communities across the country in Kentucky, Florida, Nebraska, Virginia and New Mexico. He graduated from West Mesa High School in Albuquerque and received a degree in political science from New Mexico State University.
After graduation, Carlos headed to Washington, D.C. to intern with Senator Pete Domenici and work for the Senate Sergeant at Arms. He went on to serve as the Office Manager and Systems Administrator for U.S. Representative Henry Bonilla for over twelve years, where he famously earned the nickname “Right Click.” For the past 19 years, Carlos has been a Senior IT Administrator at HouseCall, LLC in Washington, D.C.
While working for Rep. Bonilla, Carlos met his future wife, Angela Ellen Rogers. Angela and Carlos married in 1999 in Austin, Texas and welcomed their daughter, Adele Geneva Godby in 2002. Angela and Adele were the loves of Carlos’ life. The Godby family shared fun times during travel softball tournaments, family beach trips, visiting Adele in college and grad school, and many “Godby hugs.” Most of these hugs included their beloved dogs and Carlos could often be found with Tito the cat draped over his shoulders.
Carlos enjoyed spending time with friends at Mount Vernon Park, trying to perfect his lawn, all kinds of music, creating delicious dishes with New Mexico green chile and rooting for the NMSU Aggies and Dallas Cowboys. More than anything, Carlos treasured being a father to Adele. He was happiest while teaching her new skills from riding a bike to driving a car, to changing a tire to sparking Adele’s passion for science by helping her participate in every science fair. He was immensely proud of the scientist she has become pursuing her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
Carlos is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Hill. He is survived by his wife, Angela Rogers Godby; daughter Adele Godby and fiancé Kai Ludwig of Raleigh, North Carolina; father and step-mother, Russell and Vivian Godby of Sadieville, Kentucky; sister and brother-in-law, Daphne and Jim Lardner of Los Lunas, New Mexico; brother, Myles Godby of Suffolk, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Doug Smith of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; and sister, Sandra Becker of Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as many treasured nieces and nephews.
