Doug will be remembered by all of us that started playing football with him at UVA in 1971 as a tough competitor on the field and true Virginia gentleman off of it. I've had the pleasure over the years while raising a family in NOVA to deal with Doug at the Rent-All Center and he was always very friendly and helpful. My condolences to his family not only for me but for many other teammates that would have joined the services had it not been for the pandemic. Peace.


I am very sad to hear about Doug’s passing. He was my first boss and I am forever grateful for my time working at the Rent All Center. I learned so much from Doug in my time there-  Hard work and fun times. I am glad he took a chance on a meathead teenager like me and thankful for the weekends all year and a great summer job. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. 

At UVa I helped recruit Doug to join my fraternity along with Rice and Ralph to continue the Mount Vernon tradition begun by John Mitchell and Learned Barry. Here's Doug at Easter's Weekend at UVa. @ April 1974.

It saddens me to hear of his passing. It definitely hurts as I felt we shared a very similar background and family traditions. He truly is a brother.  That smile of his, he ALWAYS wore. Always positive. Even thought the  miles and time have separated us, it seems like yesterday I was in the shop talking with him like we've never been apart. I wish I could have visited him and his wife and boys to talk about parenthood. Love you Doug,  It has been an privilege to have known you and your family. You have set a great example for humankind as what a man can be and  accomplish.

I've posted a picture taken July 1967 with Doug in the center. We were the Packers, coached by Paul Prince on right and Mr. Menefee on left. There are many of kids I played with baseball on this team. I can't remember when I first met Doug,  but we hung out on several occasions ., I recall his dad, and sisters. Judy ? Of course there rental business on Route !.
