
Eleanor B. Metzbower passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Springfield, Virginia. She was born the only child of the late Vincent P. and Eleanor Brocato in Baltimore, Maryland on October 24, 1937. She leaves behind her children; son, Christopher (Katy) and daughter, Meghan Alycia. Mrs. Metzbower died from complications of thrombocytopenia and stroke. Dr. Edward Metzbower, her husband of 54years, predeceased her in 2021 from complications from Alzheimer's.
She attended Seton Hall High School, and Towson University. She became a teacher in Baltimore city and county public schools, teaching 5th & 6th grade. She ended her teaching career at St. Aiden's in Alexandria where she taught just short of 20 years, educating countless children and making lifelong friends with the St. Aiden's family.
Ellie loved her Alexandria community and was involved in many ways. She was in many women's groups, book clubs, garden clubs and volunteered at the Lyceum Museum. Her love for travel began when she taught in Germany prior to her marriage and travelled Europe. She enjoyed her last trip to Europe visiting Santiago de Compostela, Spain to honor St. James.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 19 at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Highway, Alexandria, VA 22309. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be private.
