JoAnn K. Chapman (Lentz), 72, passed away peacefully in Alexandria, Virginia. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, JoAnn lived a life defined by love, creativity, faith, and deep devotion to family and community.
JoAnn attended Lee College and met her husband in Cleveland, TN —beginning a partnership rooted in shared adventure and faith. She spent much of her life in St. Louis, Missouri, and Valdosta, Georgia, while also embracing military life. Her travels took her to Florida, the Azores, Arizona, South Carolina, the Philippines, and Japan, where she formed lasting friendships and collected cherished memories.
Above all, JoAnn was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker who created a warm, welcoming home wherever life led her. She also worked in office administration and customer service with AAFES, Walmart, and Lowe’s, where she was known for her kindness and reliability.
JoAnn’s vibrant, creative spirit shone through her beautiful singing and her love of line dancing, painting, and drawing. She found joy in church and volunteer work, throwing parties, landscaping and home projects, Ford Mustangs, and decorating for Christmas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Vivian Lentz; her husband, Gary Chapman; her daughter, Kacy Chapman; and her brother, Jim Lentz. She is survived by her son, Gary Chapman II, and son-in-law, Ronnie Chapman; grandchildren Carter Chapman and Meaghan Davis, and Meaghan’s partner, Connor MacLean; her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Cindy Lentz; and many dear extended family members and friends.
A burial service and celebration of life will be held in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Hospice Foundation of America.
JoAnn will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind social, creative soul who never met a stranger.
